What Your Donation Can Do

Every year Jefferson Center for Mental Health gives hope and opportunity to over 19,000 children and their families, adults and older adults who struggle with mental illness and severe emotional problems. But we can’t do this alone.

State and Federal funding and grants do not cover the costs of providing quality mental health care for all that come through our doors.  As a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, we depend on the generosity of the community.

At Jefferson Center we do believe people can recover from mental illness.  Your generosity can give hope and help to people of all ages, living with a mental illness and waking up each morning dreaming of a better day, a place to live, a job…a chance to belong.

Kim's Story

My name is Kim. I am a wife, a mother, a playwright and I have a bipolar diagnosis. My life before coming to Jefferson Center was pretty bleak with many challenges. I spent most of my days managing my
diagnosis. I’ve been homeless several times. I was headed for a very dark course and I think the prospect of suicide was very, very strong for me. I had given up on my dreams of making something of myself.

When I came to Jefferson Center, I got great care and the biggest part of my recovery was the Wellness Center. I took classes in pain management, self-esteem, and time management. I took classes about living a life out in the world rather than in my home feeling worthless.

The thing that I think is sort of missing in the world is an awareness that mental health makes a difference in everything. It makes a difference in physical health and emotional health and spiritual health. As far as I'm concerned, life is always about getting out there and going for it. Doing what you want and making your dreams come true.

Through the Wellness Center, especially through the relationships I built there, I now see myself as a healthy person who happens to have amental health diagnosis. I perceive myself as someone who can accomplish something and make a difference.
