Become a Member of Jefferson Center for Mental Health’s Endowment Circle!

Jefferson Center is committed to providing access to quality, cost-effective services to all those in need. However, we need your help to do it!

Government support in the form of state funds and Medicaid reimbursement are diminishing, while private foundation grants are unpredictable sources of revenue, and the limited amount of dollars that consumers can provide do not cover the full costs of services. Earnings from Jefferson Center’s endowment will be used to provide mental health services for those in need who do not have health insurance or other private resources.

According to the Mental Health Funders Collaborative:

• One in five (900,000) Coloradoans need mental health services each year, yet less than one third of them received needed services.

• Untreated, mental illness can prevent community members from achieving success in work or develop healthy, nurturing relationships, can cause severe personal distress, and put them at risk for suicide or homelessness.

• Mental illness in adults can have a significant negative impact on children in their care. Untreated mental health issues in children may interfere with their academic achievement, physical development, and can make their transition to adulthood more difficult.

There is also a significant cost to the community when mental illness goes untreated.

• Critical staff time and hospital resources are expended as patients in need of mental health services are forced to seek help at emergency rooms because they cannot afford primary behavioral health care.

• Homeless persons with mental health and substance abuse problems that go untreated are more likely to remain homeless longer, and encounter more barriers to increased self-sufficiency.

The high cost of health care makes treatment out of reach for many people. Those who do not have insurance — more than 17% of Colorado residents lack health insurance — often avoid treatment entirely. Accessing affordable mental health care is most difficult for low-income community members.
